Mom reads a lot of novels. She says it is to give her ideas about her own writing. I think she just likes to read. She reads 2 – 4 novels each week. She does most of her reading just before she goes to sleep and as part of our afternoon nap time. Some nights she reads until it is entirely too late. She still gets up between 5 and 6 AM (personally I think 4 AM would be better.) I do try to tell her to turn off the light and close the book. I do this in the best way possible – I sit between her face and the book and press my nose to her nose. Sometimes she tells me, “Just one more chapter.” I only let her read for 5 more minutes before my nose is against hers again.
The novel she is currently reading is supposedly written by a cat. I don’t have an issue with that, because I do write this blog. My issue is the description of a “hippy” stray beach cat with a catnip habit. That would be fine, but right off the bat the beach cat is a male calico!!!!! Every cat knows that 99.9% of calicos are female. If the cat is this story is 1) male and 2) a calico, the writing cat would make a point of how rare he is. Clearly the person writing this novel is uneducated about real cats. Why didn’t the author make the beach cat into a tabby? It could be an orange tabby in contrast to the “author” who is a black & white tuxedo cat. In closing, I’ll say again that Mom needs to turn my blog into a book because she and I know what real cats are all about!
