Part 136 – Mom’s Quiet
Mom has been a little quiet since the party she had for Dad. She gave away the extra sloppy joe mix to the Shepard’s Supper she attends weekly. That dinner gets her out of the house and forces her to mix with other people each week. She took left over salads to a friend who’s husband was very sick in the hopes they might encourage him to eat. She wished she could do more for them. I think it reminded her of the last days with Dad. I know she tries to focus on the good times we had. She doesn’t talk about that even with me.
Today, Mom learned that another friend’s mother has passed after a month in hospice. The friend had shared earlier that it had been hard because one day the hospice crew would tell him that she only had hours, but the next day she would be up organizing things! The yoyo is so hard emotionally. Mom had that whenever Dad came home from the hospital before she had to take him back. That is not a memory I want her to focus on right now.
I want Mom to focus on our trip that is coming up soon. She has more work to complete to have the van ready. She is making changes to the insulation in the ceiling. That is hard work. She still has vertigo issues when she has to look up for very long. She wants to get it done, so she can go kayaking at least once before we leave. Being on the water always seems to make her happy. Water is fine, but I don’t think I want to be in her kayak far from shore. Miko, however, might think it would be great fun! She likes to dip her paw into the bath water when Mom is filling the tub. Sooner or later, I know she will fall in the bath tub. Silly kitten.

Part 137 – Easter
Today is Sunday, my normal posting day. Mom said that this is a special Sunday. It is Easter. She said that for many people it is a special religious day. For others, it is a secular holiday with the Easter bunny hiding eggs and giving baskets of candy and toys. Mom told us that when her human children were younger, the Easter bunny hid dried fruits, canned fruits and snack bars that would provide snacks and treats on the summer’s camping trips. We are planning a long camping trip, but I don’t think she is planning snacks for us, and I personally don’t like fruit, so it is okay that the Easter bunny didn’t hid any of that stuff here. Missy is not like the late, great Fred the dog. He would eat almost anything if Dad gave it to him. Missy didn’t like the grapes that Dad tried to give her. She did like sharing his cookies with him. I liked the oatmeal ones, but I would only eat a small bite. He never tried to feed me a grape.
Mom didn’t let us to go out on our leads today. I wonder if she was afraid that we might hunt the East bunny. I would never dream of hurting a bunny. I’ve seen some when we have been camping. They are funny looking creatures. I’m happy to just watch them. I’m not so sure about Miko. I bet she would try to catch them. I don’t know why she would want to. She doesn’t even like cookies!

Part 138 Alaska Here We Come!
Mom has not taken the time to let me write much. Tonight, she stopped early at an RV park in Ft Nelson, BC. Miko, Missy, and I have gotten to play outside. Mom said she saw another bear alongside the road again today, but I didn’t see it. Miko thinks she wants to see one! I know she would be a snack if it were that close.
So far, the trip has been interesting. Mom has been tired early, which is just fine. I get to snuggle with her before she goes to sleep. I’d like to snuggle more when I wake her at 5 AM, but she just gets up to make her coffee. I may need to rethink that.
