  • Part 73 – Just Another Sunday

Yesterday was my normal posting day. Mom and Dad left early to buy groceries as is normal. When they returned, Mom put Sophia and me out on our leads. We enjoy that unless the neighbor’s dogs are barking at us. They did bark yesterday. Sophia and I had lots of time to sniff the grass and the flowers (yellow things that Mom calls dandelions.) The sun was out, but it wasn’t too hot.

In summary, I have to say it was a boring day. I just didn’t have anything important to say. I can’t see any of you getting excited about sniffing the grass, although Mom said there is a special kind of grass that some people do get excited about. Mom said she doesn’t plan to plant that grass in our yard. I wonder why.

  • Part 74 – Fire Ants

I think my mom swears. I’m not really sure what that means, but the words she was uttering this morning seemed to match the ones I’ve heard from some of the people in the movies that Dad watches. Mom did the same thing last week. Both times she had been outside cutting grass. She came rushing in and pulled off her shoes and socks while saying those words plus “fire ants!” Today she also pulled off her jeans and then was pulling little black bugs off her legs. She took her shoes and socks into the hall bathroom where I watched as she shook them out in the sink before running lots of hot water. Again she was saying those words plus “fire ants!” I don’t think she likes the fire ants. Next she was rubbing toothpaste on parts of her legs. She did that last week as well, but later showed me the nasty red bumps on the back of one of her ankles. She had only rubbed toothpaste on the front. She was still saying those words plus “fire ant bites.” I’m not sure what toothpaste has to do with fire ants, but I’m happy if it makes her happy. She didn’t go back out to finish cutting the grass. Once she had dressed, it had started to rain. At least she didn’t swear at the rain.

  • Part 75 – Thunder & Lightning

Like the silly dog, Missy, I don’t really like to hear those loud cracks of thunder when it is quickly followed by the flash of lightning. A long time ago, Mom explained that the noise followed quickly by the flash means that the storm is very close. When that happens, she often shuts down her computer. Our electricity doesn’t go off for very long, but she doesn’t like those fast flicks on and off. Before she shuts it down, she takes a few minutes to email her work in progress from one email account to another (I think she has too many of those.) She says she remembers losing lots of programming work when a power surge fried the hard drive in her old XT computer. I don’t have a clue what any of that means, but 40 years later, it still upsets her.

That thunder and lightning also means that we will get lots of rain. Sophia and I won’t be able to play out on our leads. I love to go out and have a little grass salad. When I do that, I may throw it up again. Mom worries about that. I did a lot of that when I had that tumor in my throat. For now, I feel just fine. I think mom’s just like to worry. It might be better if she just worries about her computer.
